Personal report

Welcome to 4Elements

The 4Elements Personality Inventory® is inspired by Ancient Greek philosophy's concept of the four elements — Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. One of the most ancient personality typologies was established by metaphorically transferring the natural features of the elements to the psychological level. The typology is very intuitive and easily applicable in our day-to-day life. Without even realizing it, we use the 4Elements personality concept in our everyday speech. For instance, we say about some people that they are often walking on air, some people are rather down-to-the-earth. Still-waters-run-deep is a famous proverb introduced by William Shakespeare depicting the personality of silent people. And for sure, we all also know people who are enjoying playing with fire.

The psychological test results in front of you are based on more than twenty years of research in personality psychometrics proving high reliability and validity of this method. We believe this report and 4Elements Personality Inventory® will become a unique guide to your personal development.

Your Personality
Balance of elements in your personality

The numbers show the relative balance of individual elements in your personality profile. In terms of overall personality inclination, this ratio is important as it predicts which element(s) will dominate your personality.

Two elements dominate your personality profile —Air and Fire. These elements significantly affect your conduct and perception. Most of your qualities and strengths are bonded to them, yet their dominance also entails some weaknesses, which should be compensated by developing the less represented elements.

Relative balance of individual elements
in your personality profile

Your Profile
Comparison of your profile with population

The numbers are shown in percentile. Percentile indicates the number of people from a representative sample whose score was lower than yours or the same. For example, suppose your result on the scale of a particular element corresponds with the 60th percentile. In that case, it means that 60 percent of people have personality traits related to that element as prominent as you or less, while 40 percent of the people will have these traits more prominent.
Comparison of your elements against general population
SAMPLE DATA

As stated above, the report does not describe any specific result as better or worse than others. However, we should always be more sensitive about extreme scores. Having a very high representation of the given element can bring many qualities, which can be at the same time too intensive and overrule all others. Having a too-low representation of the given element can, on the other hand, indicate that we have some blind spots, and we might consider developing this element so that we can apply the qualities of the given element when the situation deserves it.

Your results in four areas

What is your source of energy, or how do you handle demanding situations? Through this report, you can become more aware of your behavior and tendencies in four life-important areas. In this part, you can learn more about your way of communication, your preferred style of work, motivators, or your coping strategies in stressful situations.

Your Communication

You are communicative and naturally talkative, and you feel good in the company of other people. You like establishing new contacts, and you probably have a lot of friends and acquaintances of various ages, social status and interests. You are inquisitive. You enjoy talking to people and exchanging information with them. Due to your quick-witted thinking and fluency, you are capable of getting involved in a discussion, even in an unknown environment and with unfamiliar people. You can improvise well; you are, for example, able to flexibly react to a new, unfamiliar theme in a conversation. Because you like communicating with a broad range of people, you may turn into a kind of “information nod” amongst your friends or within the professional context. You prefer having a wide range of social contacts, and you usually prefer such a form of relationship which caters to sufficient space and independence for both parties. At the same time, you are quite tolerant to the weaknesses or different lifestyles of your friends and dear ones. You have a natural interest in others, you like asking additional questions, and you make a good partner in a personal conversation.

Whether in solitude or a company, you like it when “something is happening”. You appear vivid and energetic to others and noticeable in social situations. You have the ability to captivate, and you don’t mind being in the center of attention. Simultaneously, you can be relaxed in communication with others; you can lead a conversation and entertain others; that’s why others also feel well and relaxed when they are with you.

When discussing themes that are important to you, you tend to be enthusiastic and share your perspective aloud. When you really care about something, you can be quite convincing. You can ventilate your view openly, even in situations when you disagree with others; you are usually able to defend your point of view without problems, with a sense of humor and ease, even against a majority.

You are interested in many different areas, and you are capable of performing excellently in many of them. At the same time, you are flexible, and you can adjust to changes well. That’s why you have the potential to succeed in diverse environments or many heterogeneous roles or positions. At work, you enjoy the feeling of freedom, time flexibility and the possibility of doing things “your way”. You usually handle an intensive workload under time pressure and achieve good results even under such circumstances. You prefer working in bursts and mild stress can often prompt you to perform above average. You are capable of handling chaos, and you are well-oriented in a non-transparent environment.

You are naturally inquisitive, and you like new ideas; therefore, you are usually a quick learner. It is possible that you especially suit the project type of work where every project differs. Your Motivation

High motivation is the essential element of your performance. If you are sufficiently motivated, you can make an above-average effort and perform excellently. Your strength is that you can draw motivation from many sources and find it actively, even at places that no one else would be looking at.

You get motivated by feeling confident in your skills and seeing your work as important and responsible. Recognition of your work by others is essential to you; even public praise before an audience can be very pleasing. You feel good in an environment where you can excel; you need to be amongst the best in the activities that you care for. You rarely settle for the average. Paradoxically, increased pressure on your person or time stringency helps you get the best out of yourself.

To a certain point, the prestige of your work and the image of your exceptionality is important to you. Sometimes, you enjoy doing things that distinguish you from others. You get fulfilled when you can do something for others that impress them and fill them with enthusiasm. Sometimes you get motivated more by even an insecure notion of “what if” than by the poorer yet more realistic presence.

You can get excited by new ideas, thoughts, or people relatively quickly — the novelty of the activity is a strong driver of your motivation. You enjoy exploring new things, places, people and areas which are yet unfamiliar to you.

People around you are another source of your motivation: you usually charge your batteries up by communicating and sharing with others. At the same time, you can captivate others with your attitude and energy, awaken their zest and willingness to communicate — you have the potential of being a brilliant motivator and bring the best out of the people around you.

Your strengths

    Naturally competitive
    Seeks challenges, ambitious targets
    Likes surpassing himself
Does not settle for the average
    Strong drive
    Enjoys impressive gestures

Your Stress management

You see interpersonal conflicts as a normal part of life, and you approach them as an opportunity to clarify mutual positions and standpoints. In general, they are less threatening to you than they are to the people around you; you see them as normal and sometimes even an important part of life. You don’t usually suppress dissatisfaction and emotions inside; you dare entering even an open confrontation for the sake of a good cause. However, in common conflict situations, you don’t normally get involved in a fierce confrontation, as you prefer a friendly and partnership-like way of dealing with others.

You don’t often get angry, and if you do, your anger usually leaves you sooner than other people and doesn’t leave deep traces in you. You can openly communicate dissatisfaction or criticism, which helps you in eliminating negative energy while, at the same time, contributing to solving the problem. You usually forgive fast, you don’t bear the personal injustice or grievances for long, and you don’t like revisiting what happened in the past.

You try to see the positive aspects of the people around you; you think of yourself in a similar context, which gives you the required peace and self-confidence in most situations. You are capable of improving your mental hygiene by sharing your worries and feelings with others. You can be quite tolerant to the failures and mistakes of your own and others; you have a good tolerance of problematic situations and you can find positive sides even to a failure. Mild stress situations don’t affect you negatively, and there aren’t many moments in which you’d succumb to feelings of stress or frustration. You are sometimes able to transfer your positive attitude to others and ease the situation through your perspective at times of tension.

Your strengths

    Resistance to conflict situations
Elimination of negative energy through open communication
Ability to be confronted with a different opinion
    Above-average resistance to stress
„Healthy“ level of stress as a driver of better performance

Develop qualities of EARTH

Be observant of your inner process. To a large extent, bringing up children is working with their attention: parents try to disturb their children from their absorbedness in their games and turn them to external stimuli, such as dinner time or cleaning up toys. Thus, children become more attentive to their surroundings and others — and they learn to control their attention in a focused manner.Observe your own absorbedness in inner thoughts and feelings. Learn to reflect on this process better, step out of it easier, and work with your attention more.

Complete your tasks. Completing a task means assuming the responsibility for the result — try to assume it. If one fears the judgment of the result of his/her work, he/she may subconsciously keep suspending it. Completing tasks is essential for our self-confidence, though. Patience and concentration are needed for it. (Especially for the airy people, this may mean much self-denial.) Complete your tasks consciously: approach it as a challenge. And observe what energy is needed for it. Support your patience and concentration.

Think about your values. If you observe your acts' effects on others, you may get surprised by why your behavior bothers them sometimes. For example, people often long for certainty, comprehensibility, efficiency, and tangible results. People with low Earth representation might inadvertently breach these needs of others as they are not aware of them. Your efforts to develop Earth will be easier if you understand these values and needs and if you will want to benefit them (or, as the case may be, to hamper them less) in achieving them.

Proceed strategically. If you can step out of your thought flow, you can look at yourself and the situation from the outside — and make a strategic reflection. Do I realize what goal am I following? Am I using the right path and method to achieve it? Am I getting closer? Am I proceeding in compliance with the outside circumstances? What effects do my acts achieve?

Develop qualities of AIR

Experiment with letting go of control. What happens if you don’t control certain things and don’t bear them in your mind? You may actually find out that not as much energy, attention and effort is needed for things running the way you want them.

Treat yourself to relaxation. Look for opportunities when you can forget about the routine of the day and get carried away with stories, fantasies, movies, images, dreams… Indulge in aimless activities, roaming or activities you enjoy and which inspire you. Let your “airy” component breathe.

Look after your spirit and soul — in other words, after your “air”. The soul isn’t focused on performance but on the experience. Look around yourself when you go for a trip. Change your plans as you go along — this will teach you not to take the destination (result) too seriously and enjoy the path (process).

Create any time the opportunity arises. Note when and how your ideas come to you. Try to change the perspective, experiment with ideas and challenge them. A lot of airy qualities are hidden in a joke and humour.

Develop qualities of FIRE

Discover what you like doing — and do it. It is these very activities which fuel your inner fire. What we like doing is what “charges our batteries”. We often fail to perceive how much energy we are putting into these activities because this investment returns big time. The energy gain shows in the feeling of mental strength, enthusiasm, fulfilment. We focus outwards more, into the outside world — and that’s where we get our energy from.

Make decisions. Suspended decisions are “unfinished shapes” which retain our mental energy. By making decisions you release your energetic capacity.

Focus on your strength, name them, be well aware of them. Having a healthy self-confidence doesn’t mean being arrogant — it is more about being firm and stable. Your strengths can come from various fields of your life. What do others appreciate about you? And, most importantly: what do you appreciate about yourself? What makes you unique? Think about what you (subconsciously) derive your self-confidence from: how dependent are you in your self-evaluation on the opinions of your environment? These can be fickle: observe how the situation you are being evaluated in affects your well-being — and your long-term satisfaction. Building your self-confidence on more stable foundations means a large gain of personal energy.

Confirm. If you invest your energy and time into something, be it an activity, relationship or contemplation, don’t forget to confirm achieved successes and results. Look back on your work, the path you have walked and enjoy the fruit of your efforts. Don’t let these moments skip your attention and don’t take success as a matter of course.

Develop qualities of WATER

Develop mindful approach to inner and outter world. Make a few “stops” throughout the day and ask yourself: How am I feeling right now? What am I experiencing? Only if you’re in a good touch with yourself, you will feel comfortable and you will have enough energy to enter a good contact with others.

Focus more on the feelings of others. Ask yourself more often: How do people around me feel? What do they experience? What do they fear? What are they looking forward to? Talk to people about their feelings. It is the only way to verify the truthfulness of your assumptions.

Focus on your relationships with others. What are they like? Don’t you lack depth, intensity or closeness in them? What about the people around you — your colleagues, friends, partner — how do they perceive you? What do they think about you? Start from here. Especially if your Fire is span, your self-reflexion might be weakened. That’s why you should ask yourself: what do they think about me as a person? How do they perceive my acts and words? Ask for a feed-back and compare your findings with your own image of yourself. You may find it unnatural or unsuitable, yet personal talks and conversations about relationships are the entry gate to developing Water.

Expose yourself to feelings and express them. Seek situations rich in feelings. Treat yourself to a romantic film, nice exhibition or another aesthetic experience from time to time. Don’t avoid feelings in a conversation; treat yourself to being silent and to experiencing what’s going on.Talking about your feelings may sound inappropriate at first, yet once you get used to it, you often reveal how beneficial it is in a number of situations. By naming your feelings, you find your bearings within yourself and your self-confidence grows. Thus, you will start feeling at home in the land of feelings and your empathy will start to grow.

About 4Elements

More than two and a half thousand years ago, the origin of the world and the differences between people began to be explained by relations(hip) of the four natural elements. This interpretation has permeated all languages, and therefore our thinking, for centuries as a natural metaphor. After twenty-five years of research, our team has been able to demonstrate that we can reliably and validly explain much of what is repetitive in our behaviour and experience by four mathematically provable factors whose qualities correspond to the elements. Thus, the Four Elements Inventory has met the American Psychological Association's Standards for Psychological and Educational Testing requirements for developers and publishers of psychological tests.
